Paris hosted the Generation Equality Forum from June 30 to July 2, the second phase of the global gathering for equality between women and men, under the aegis of UN Women and co-chaired by France and Mexico.

The largest UN convention on gender equality since 1995 gathered Heads of State and Government, international organizations, civil society representatives, youth, private sector companies around the same table, with the aim of obtaining concrete, ambitious and transformative commitments to gender equality.

The work of the Generation Equality Forum in Paris is part of France’s priority on gender equality. This approach has taken shape during the French Presidency of the G7 through several multi-stakeholder initiatives encouraging members to adopt progressive legislative frameworks for gender equality.

A global acceleration plan was launched at the Paris Forum in response to recent worrying developments. According to Delphine O, Ambassador and Secretary General of the Forum:

“Two regressive trends justify the raison d’être of this forum, on the one hand, the rise of conservative and retrograde states, openly opposed to women’s rights, including at the gates of Europe, and on the other hand, the consequences of the health crisis, which has disproportionately affected women.”

The strategic axes of the Generation Equality Forum

The global acceleration plan for equality includes 6 major themes:

– Gender-based violence,
– Economic equality,
– The right to control one’s own body,
– Feminist action for climate justice,
– Technology and innovation for equality,
– Feminist movements and leadership.

“We have almost 1,000 pledges that have been expressed

    “40 billion in pledges”

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women

    What are France’s commitments?

    • Improving sexual and reproductive health by promoting access to rights and sex education.
    • Girls’ education, with a targeted contribution from France as part of the replenishment of the Global Partnership for Education.
    • The protection of women rights defenders.

The Generation Equality Forum 2021 was a major global turning point for gender equality. This historic event brought together more than 250 people from all over the world. Stakeholders committed to a five-year plan to accelerate equality, leadership and opportunity for women and girls around the world.

CAMELEON aspires to a fairer world for future generations and the concrete actions taken by the Forum reinforce this goal. In its programmes CAMELEON actively fights for equality as one of the fundamental rights.

In the Philippines, we support the education of young girls so that they can become autonomous and agents of change. We work for the independence of mothers by strengthening their capacity for action and giving them the keys to become true leaders in their communities.

In France and in the Philippines, we raise children’s awareness from an early age and regardless of gender about gender equality, gender stereotypes and their rights for a more equal world.
